Whether you're expecting a baby or planning to start a family in the near future, it's a very special and exciting time. Choosing the right physician, midwife and hospital for you are some of the most important decisions you'll make. To have peace of mind throughout your pregnancy, you need to feel confident that you and your baby will receive the very best medical care. At Glacial Ridge Hospital, we can give you that peace of mind.
We've been providing maternity services to residents of Pope County and the surrounding area for decades; each year, more and more babies are delivered in our hospital. To meet women's needs, we offer pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum care from both physicians and a certified nurse midwife (CNM).
CNMs are registered nurses who have graduated from an accredited nurse-midwife program and have passed the national certification examination administered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB). Nurse midwives have been practicing in the United States since the 1920s, and provide a full range of valuable primary healthcare services for women, including gynecologic and obstetric services.
Our experienced Certified Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP-C) support the delivery team by providing prenatal and postpartum care in the clinic. They may also assist in C-section deliveries.
Our staff continues to win a special place in the hearts of mothers, as evidenced by the many wonderful comments, recommendations and returns for subsequent births. Our Maternity Services Team has a high level of expertise and genuinely care about you and making the birth of your little one special. We now offer water births.
So that we may help you get exactly the pregnancy and birth experience you want, we have provided, below, a form which will help you create your own birth plan, as well as a list of websites that may enhance your prenatal and postpartum experience. Enjoy this special time in your life!
Supporting and preparing you for childbirth also includes education. We offer classes for expectant parents quarterly. Click here to view upcoming class dates.
Whether it's your first baby or your last, you probably have preferences for how - ideally - you'd like your baby's birth to be handled. A birth plan allows you to communicate your labor and delivery wishes with us so everyone who cares for you during labor and delivery understands your preferences. By having a written birth plan, you can be part of the decision-making even if unexpected events occur along the way.
Print a birth plan today and check the options you know you want, or those you'd like to ask your doctor or midwife about. Then, bring it to your next prenatal appointment. Once your plan is finalized, a copy will be filed at the hospital so when the big day comes, everyone knows your desires. You may even wish to put a copy in your hospital bag. Just remember you'll need to stay flexible in case something comes up which requires your birth team to deviate from your plan. The birth of your baby is one of the most memorable, life-changing, exciting experiences of your life. Thank you for entrusting your care to us. We will do everything possible to ensure you receive the best care throughout your pregnancy and beyond.
