Sandy McCarthy, P.A.
Emergency Department
Sandy grew up on a farm south of Morris, MN. When she was a teen, she lost a cousin due to a farming accident. Feeling helpless, she vowed to obtain the knowledge and skills she would need if she were ever to be in a similar situation. Her unwavering resolution drove her to pursue a career in emergency medicine.
Sandy worked as a Registered Nurse for sixteen years, and her experience in the field compelled her to further her education. She graduated from the University of North Dakota as a Physician Assistant in 1998, and received her Masters degree in PA education in 2011 from Arizona School of Health Sciences.
After working many years in a large, urban ER, Sandy was attracted to rural emergency medicine. Glacial Ridge Health System stood out because of the outstanding physicians and staff providing care which she felt exceeded that of large metropolitan facilities. In 2011, she moved to Glenwood for its hometown atmosphere, close-knit community and to be closer to her family.
On her spare time, Sandy enjoys cross-country skiing, running, hiking, walking, shooting and working with power tools. She is married and has three grown children.
