HEICS/ NIMS

Its not a matter of if, its a matter of what and when. The nature of an emergency is that it is not expected. A hospitals response to a large scale emergency incident depends on their preparation and emergency plan. On February 28, 2003, President Bush issued Homeland Security Presidential Directive-5. HSPD-5 directed the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop and administer a National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.

Hospital staff member(s) responsible for instituting HEICS/NIMS must assess the hospitals current emergency operations plan, review the hospital and communitys risk & threat assessment, review the physical structure, and assess their emergency operations center capabilities. Most often, local emergency management officials are involved in the NIMS training for an emergency in the community.

With the increased awareness of the role that the National Incident Management system will play in the future, many hospitals desire to include a NIMS component in their HEICS training. We can include NIMS as a part of your HEICS training even including a full, 4 hour NIMS FEMA certification program. Upon completion, all attendees who pass the final exam will receive a FEMA IS-700 certificate.
